Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

You probably can not locate it on a map, but Bichkek is an underdog under the next trendy place to travel. This charming outpost on the Silk Road makes a great base for exploring Kyrgyzstan’s incredible culture and nature. In just an hour you can hike to Ala Archa National Park, one of the best day hikes in the world. Or venture further afield to practice horse riding and eagle watching. You understand that Kyrgyzstan is the next big destination. Before you go, do not forget to take a look at the very popular Interhousehostel !

Ios, Greec

A few kilometers from the overcrowded island of Santorini is one of the best cheap places to travel in Europe. Ios is an island almost as beautiful and much more affordable than its big sister. The white-walled houses stretch out on the hill overlooking a beautiful bay – it sounds too good to be true, right ?! You can even get a sea view room at the Francesco’s hostel and for a few extra euros you can pick up a delicious gyro (meat dish) for dinner. Want to have a drink (or ten)? Head towards the main city, where many cheap bars are open until dawn.

Kiev, Ukraine

Kiev is a cosmopolitan city perfect for budget travelers, but with refined tastes. Trendy restaurants, bustling beach clubs and stunning architecture, you will not find anywhere else that level of luxury at these prices. And even if a tragic war still takes place in the east of Ukraine, you should not let that stop you from going there: Kiev is a very safe city. Even if it remains a trying experience, taking a trip to Chernobyl is a fascinating experience that you can only do in Kiev.

Ometepe, Nicaragua

In the middle of shark infested Lake Nicaragua (do not let this info discourage you from going there!) Is an amazing 8-shaped island connected by an isthmus of sand and jungle between two imposing volcanoes. Ometepe remains untouched by tourism (with the exception of a handful of backpackers who make the Gringo trail), making it one of the best destinations to go to Central America. The island offers incredible nature, stunning scenery and a relaxed island atmosphere – all for a handful of bread compared to the popular Arenal Volcano a few miles

south of Costa Rica. A tip: stay in one of the fincas (coffee plantations) that also host youth hostels on the flanks of volcanoes for a total immersion in the local culture!
